Reserva da Biosfera da Mata Atlântica, Brasil – Rede CPLP MAB

A RBMA – Reserva da Biosfera da Mata Atlântica foi o primeiro território brasileiro a integrar a #WNBR da UNESCO’s Man and Biosphere Programme, em 1993, sendo também uma das reservas promotoras da Rede #CPLPMab.

Com cerca de 89 milhões de ha que se estendem por 17 Estados e mais de 6750 km do litoral brasileiro, entrando também pelo interior de vários estados costeiros, esta é a maior Reserva em área florestada do planeta. A Mata Atlântica apresenta uma paisagem heterogénea, face às diferentes temperaturas, altitudes e regimes de chuvas – influenciados pela proximidade do mar, relevo, solos e clima de cada região. Daqui resulta uma das florestas mais ricas em biodiversidade do mundo.

A exploração excessiva dos recursos naturais da Mata Atlântica coloca-a entre os 5 hotspots de biodiversidade críticos, e o grande desafio desta Reserva tem sido equilibrar a conservação da natureza e o progresso económico.

The Atlantic Forest #BiosphereReserve was the first Brazilian territory to integrate the #WNBR of UNESCO MaB, in 1993, and is also one of the promoters of the #CPLPMab Network.

With around 89 million ha spread across 17 states and over 6750 km of the Brazilian coastline, also entering the interior of several coastal states, this is the largest reserve in forested area on the planet. The #AtlanticForest presents a heterogeneous landscape, given the different temperatures, altitudes and rainfall regimes – influenced by the proximity of the sea, relief, soils and climate of each region. This results in one of the richest forests in #Biodiversity in the world.

The excessive exploitation of the Atlantic Forest’s natural resources places it among the 5 critical biodiversity hotspots, and the great challenge of this Reserve has been to balance nature conservation and economic progress.
